EU Rolls Out Strict New Safety Standards for Inflatable Swimming Products, Full Enforcement Starting August 2026
The European Union officially launched updated EN 71-1:2026 toy safety standard and chemical control regulation (EU 2025/2509), which will take full effect on August 1, 2026 and set tougher access thresholds for all inflatable swimming accessories imported into EU nations.
For physical safety, new codes raise minimum burst pressure and stitching tensile requirements for inflatable swim rings and floating platforms; all infant inflatable swim seats must pass anti-overturn submerged testing to cut toddler drowning risks. On chemical compliance, the new rule completely bans PFAS, BPA and other endocrine-disrupting substances in inflatable swimming goods, limiting lead migration below 2mg/kg.
Meanwhile, UK updates its UKCA certification rules aligned with EU standards, and US CPSC tightens entry inspection: in early April 2026, the US regulator issued an urgent consumer warning and banned sales of “Relaxing Baby” infant inflatable swim floats after one toddler drowning fatality caused by easy overturn of defective products, urging full disposal of all related stocks nationwide.
